Does your boss always seem to want to talk to you? Asking you how your weekend was and attempting to make a genuine connection? Do they constantly ask for updates on that report you were supposed to submit two weeks ago? Do they offer to take you to lunch ignoring the fact that lunch is your only refuge from this overly friendly workaholic? We’ve all experienced that one boss that constantly seems to be hovering over your shoulder, or the overly friendly boss who seems to always want to make conversation.

Whether your boss is making sure you do your job, forcing you to socialize, or both, here are some ideas on how to get your boss to back off:

  1. Hide
  2. Quick, slide under your desk! Lock yourself in a bathroom stall. Dig a tunnel to the parking lot. Don’t make a sound! Better yet, hold your breath. They’ll never find you here.

  3. Create a Distraction
  4. “Oh no! Someone set the microwave on fire! I better go help. You stay here, I know you’re busy.”

  5. Forget how to Speak English
  6. “Hey, have you taken care of that report I asked for?”

“Que? Je ne parle pas anglais. Ασε με ήσυχο.”

Your boss will be so impressed by your multilingual skills that they will forget all about that report. Be aware that if you take this approach, you may be asked to translate for international customers, which could get messy.

  7. Weird Them Out
  8. “What did you do this weekend?”

“Oh, you know, just brushing up on my taxidermy skills and researching the best way to dispose of a body. The usual.”

Trust us, they’ll minimize all communication with you after that one. If you think your boss has a high tolerance for weirdos, or just really want to go the extra mile, keep a decaying rodent in your desk and say it’s for an experiment. Caution: this tactic may backfire if your boss is themselves, a total creep.

  9. Do Your Work
  10. Ha! Just kidding. We all know that’s not an option.

  11. Use CRM
  12. The ultimate fool proof way to get your boss to leave you alone? Use CRM. There’s no need to pretend to do your work when a CRM solution can actually do it for you. Automated alerts, mailings, email logging, record keeping, and more; CRM will do it, so you don’t have to.

Wait, what?! Your current solution doesn’t provide this level of functionality, or you don’t have a CRM solution at all? Ask us about Tour de Force today!
